NO TURNING BACK: 77 PER CENT OF ENTREPRENEURS WOULD NOT GO BACK TO THE “9 TO 5”

  • 95 per cent of East Midlands entrepreneurs would not return to working a “9 to 5” job for somebody else
  • Over half (51 per sent) of entrepreneurs in Wales would swap back to a regular job
  • Construction and catering entrepreneurs are happiest in their jobs

New research released today by Abbey shows that the UK’s entrepreneurs don’t envy their old 9 to 5 jobs, with 77 per cent of them claiming they would never want to return to working for somebody else. The study was conducted amongst a representative sample of Britain’s small business bosses and shows that entrepreneurs would not want to go back to working for somebody else, despite facing tough conditions..


According to the research entrepreneurs in the East  Midlands are happiest with their lot with 91 per cent stating they would not want to return to their old jobs, while 51 per cent of entrepreneurs in Wales would take up 9 to 5 jobs again.  Construction workers proved the happiest entrepreneurs with 91 per cent saying they would not return to their previous jobs, closely followed by those working in catering at 88 per cent.

“Running your own business can be tough but rewarding.  Our research proves that the majority of entrepreneurs would not want to return to a 9 to 5 role working for somebody else.  The benefits of running your own business obviously outweigh the negatives. Once people have taken the plunge they are unlikely to want to return to their old lifestyle no matter what problems they may  encounter.
